Event Recap – Better War Through Archery 2024

This past weekend was one of the busiest I’ve had in a long while, with Saturday at Better War Through Archery in the Barony of Sternfeld, sandwiched between two days of the Indiana Comic Convention (scoring 3 treasured autographs for my collection).

Archery isn’t my usual focus, I intended for it to be a mainly socializing event, but I still brought my bow along to try to get some practice in. However, I ended up not having any time at all to shoot and very little to casually socialize. I retained for her Majesty through the morning and early afternoon, and spent most of the rest of the day at Gregory Bryant and Cerian Cantwr’s pelican vigils catching up with a few folks and talking more magic with Dr. Best. Before evening court I caught up with Konrad Mailander to strike a batch of royal pounds to pay for our new practice site (I kid you not, they requested “a pouch of coins of the realm” for using the space).

While overall it was fun, I’ll be honest, it was a really hard day. My mental health took a huge hit almost as soon as the event started, and it was very difficult to hold composure and not call it early. My heart goes out to all my friends that were there for support throughout the day. You all are the ones that really make this absurd hobby wirth it.

The next event on my list was going to be Inkin’ and Drinkin’ in Lincoln, but considering that I live in the path of totality for the eclipse and there’s an expected 300,000 people coming to the city to see it, there’s no way I’m dealing with the chaos of traffic that weekend. So next up for me will be the Tournament of Defense, on April 13.
