Notes
This side cloak was commissioned by Warder Titus Sharper, for his position as rapier champion of His Majesty Tsar Ivan of the Middle Kingdom. The cloak features the badge of the King’s Champion, on a background of red and white, with a green collar and cord.
I originally set out to embroider the entire design, but in quickly seeing that embroidery that thick would inhibit the cape from flowing, I chose to do an appliqué instead.
Each color of the badge was done in a separate applique piece. My favorite part of this construction is that instead of having two separate pieces for the sword above and below the fist, it is a single piece that actually passes through dragon’s hand!
The entire design was then outlined in black with a simple embroidery border stitch, which was also used to add detail lines to the dragon.
