Notes

When I started getting into medieval gaming, I immediately assembled a chest of coins & trinkets, dice, and cards, and brought it with me to every event I went to.

It’s fairly standard practice for gamers, but while good to keep around at camp or to bring to a dedicated gaming session, it’s rather inconvenient if you’re running around an event all day and want to do some impromptu trinket swapping or dicing.

I figured it would be more convenient to have some sort of pouch or purse in the chest that I could grab and go when needed, a gaming bug-out-bag, if you will. I hadn’t thought too much about it before I saw my good friend Brianna Stonefell’s own money pouch at the Midrealm Fall 2023 Crown Tourney. I immediately fell in love with it and she happily pointed me towards her source.

It took less than an hour to make, but it’s probably one of my favorite leather pieces. It’s such a simple construction but there’s an elegance to the pleats that is so much more appealing than a regular drawstring.

Research & Resources

The design I used came from Cathrin Åhlén’s blog Katafalk. Her design was based upon this extant piece from the Bryggen Museum in Bergen, Norway.
